10k challenge. I have the book premise, the back cover copy, and 60% of the outline. I will continue to work on the outline. I hope to move on to the character profiles this weekend.

I am working out the details of the plot. In Black Diamond Camille is working in a company that distributes jewelry. Now, I’ve never worked in a department store or any form of merchandising. Thus, I had to think about the process logically.

To start, I grabbed a piece of paper and jotted notes about the possible supply chain process of a jewelry company. To make my story plausible the company has to be a distributor. They must have a direct line to purchase diamonds.

Today, I met with a church member that purchases jewelry for a national department store. I told her about the company I created. She thought my ideas were right on. (I wanted to do the happy dance!)

I plan to meet with her again before November 1st.

I’m excited. My NaNoWriMo mentor recently shared a technique she uses to get to know her characters. I heard of it before but I’d never attempted to use it. I decided to use it on my villain and it was AWESOME!!! I am now connecting with my villain.

            …moving right along…

Yesterday went better than expected. I worked through a couple of chapters and realized that I needed to summarize the chapters in the book. I felt like I was bumping around in the dark. I finished the chapters summaries today. I feel a lot better.

Oh, and I found a cool guy to track my progress on the main page since my widgets don’t work.

            Urgh… (I’m groaning in frustration!)

This may be normal but I see my novel coming to life. But I’m racing against my word count. It’s a great motivator but it’s frustrating. I sit and write a great segment and I feel as if I’ve conquered a beast. But my word count will read a lousy 243, or something like that.

            Mood:
I’m utterly surprised. I am still in shock that I’m participating and that I feel good about the process and my planning worked well.
