The Fog Is Clearing 12/08/2010
![]() The fog is clearing and I'm able to think clearly. I can't believe I cranked out over 60k words in 30 days. It's inhuman...(smile) I am happy to be back. I shelved the book and worked on a few articles but I'm back. I plan to participate in the Fear of Writing 10k day next week so I need to get going. What's the plan? Well, I'm sure I will trash a lot of the book. I am reworking my book summary and adjusting my chapter outline. I'm spending time with my book notebook and getting things in order for my first full draft of the book. I hope to share the synopsis for African Emerald with you soon. 10K days are FUN! And it’s a great way to find out you’re capable of a lot more than you think. The goal is to challenge yourself to write 10,000 words . . . If you’d like to join us for one of November’s 10K Days—Wednesday, Nov 24 or Saturday the 27th—you can start by posting your RSVP HERE in the Comments section. I plan to participate on both days. What about you? Fear: The Dream Stealer 02/26/2010
![]() Stifled by Fear “What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.” I think I live by this Tim Ferriss quote. It has become somewhat of a mantra when I’m fighting the urge to talk myself out of doing something for no other reason than being a scaredy-cat. No offense to cats, but sometimes I’d rather hunch my back, show my claws (that I don’t intend to use), and run. Before you discount my posting or write me off, stop to consider what have you put off doing out of fearitalics. I know I’m not the only one, and in most venture and circumstances I’m as fearless as a super hero. But under those rare occasions when I’m showing my claws and taking quick glances--ensuring that the coast is clear--it’s usually due to some underlying anxiety that I have to address before moving forward. Read my latest article on Fear of Writing for a few methods I use to move past that all-consuming, action-halting FEAR. I would love to write an article for your blog, newsletter, ezine, website. Fear of Writing held a day long challenge. Writers were asked to cop a squat and write 10k words.I had a plan. I would gather my research for Black Diamond and use the time to work on my outline.I had part of that right--I worked on my outline--but I only managed to write a little over 4,000 words.
The ProsI am nearly done with my outline for Black Diamond. I have the book synopsis or book summary. I also have the preliminary information for working on my character profiles this weekend. Lastly, my thoughts are much clearer on the direction of this book. The ConsAre you nuts?! Yes, it was nerve racking sitting in front of a blank screen watching the flashing cursor. My head was full of ideas. But my fingers just wouldn't comply.Urgh!Lesson Learned
What I’ll Do Next TimeThey are planning another challenge day for October 24th. Here’s the plan:
"Deliver me from writers who say the way they live doesn't matter. I'm not sure a bad person can write a good book. If art doesn't make us better, then what on earth is it for." - Alice Walker | AuthorI am a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and a closet writer in Texas. I enjoy writing Flash Fiction, romance, and I'm dabbling in suspense. ArchivesOctober 2011 Receive Email Updates
